广袤而炎热的非洲大草原上，蓝色的小鹰阿凯（杰瑞米·苏雷斯 Jeremy Suarez 配音）在天空中自由翱翔，他从父亲（塞缪尔·杰克逊 Samuel L. Jackson 配音）那里接受了严格的训练，如今羽翼已丰的小家伙渴望成为一个超越父亲的飞行高手。阿凯对贫瘠的卡吐姆峡谷感到厌倦，也不愿意毕生成为只为了生计奔波的蜥蜴猎手，他渴望一场惊险刺激的冒险。这一天，疲劳的鞍嘴鹳果果带着几只刚刚破壳的绿头金织鸟路过阿凯的家门口。阿凯从他们口中得知了飞鸟之城赞比西亚的存在，于是不禁心驰神往。种类繁多的鸟类同伴，保卫赞比西亚的飓风战士，这些都给了阿凯踏上旅程的理由。
前行的道路上充满曲折和磨难，但这些都无法阻挡一个孩子成长起来……
