七年前，世界知名的纽约舞蹈团，遭逢了极大的打击，因为他们失去了其中最具杰出的艺术指导亚历麦葛拉（Alex McGrath），也等于失去了他们的创意支柱，同时，舞团内并无人有能耐接下他的工作。这意味著舞团的结束之日即将到来。 亚历留下了一段从未发表的舞作，七年后，纽约舞蹈团觉得应该藉著发表这出舞作，趁机使舞团再次团结。
然而，为了让这出伟大的遗作能够实现，需要三个深具原创性的绝佳舞者，好好表现这出舞作的创意。 而崔维斯（派屈克史威兹）、克丽莎（丽莎·妮米）以及麦斯三位舞者在这七年间，生涯也有了极大的变化。崔维斯虽然靠开设塑身中心赚了很多钱，但是在他的内心深处仍有心愿未完成；雀儿莎已经完全放弃了专业舞蹈的世界；麦克斯则自觉除了舞蹈之外毫无一技之长。 要追寻曾经失落的舞蹈梦想，这是他们的最后一次机会。
他们再次聚首练舞，有冲突、也有心碎的时刻，更考验著彼此的关系。这是一支令他们心碎的舞作。而在他们面对这出伟大的舞作之时，他们更先得面对心中真实的自我。
