简　　介  

　　编辑亨利的妻子玛萨已经怀孕而且产期临近，如果他能从《纽约太阳报》调到《前哨》报工作，够将能得到更多的薪水，在办公室召开的会议上，哈克特请求与会者深入探讨两名白人商人的谋杀案，此手两名无辜的黑人青年已被当作嫌疑犯被捕。哈克特去《前哨》报面试后，哈克特又在报纸头版头条刊登黑人青年被捕的消息。当《前哨》的编辑知道了哈克特的策略之后，愤怒地收回了对他的招聘。玛萨查阅了自己在城市商业区熟人的关系，看见在一连串破产的银行投资者名单上有个黑手党徒的名字。哈克特得知这一情报后从一名警察那里证实了那两名黑人青年的被捕纯属警察局为装门面而敷衍了事。哈克特赶回报社，改登了两名黑人青年纯属无辜的大字新闻，经过一番波折，第二天终于登出，《纽约太阳报》第一次被抢购一空。
